PEORIA, Ill. – A judge has released from custody a teenager accused of throwing a cat out of a moving vehicle in rural Peoria County.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says the 16-year-old male was charged in court Thursday of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and Depiction of Animal Cruelty.
The teen was released from custody despite objections from prosecutors.
The state’s attorney’s office says the case will remain in juvenile court because of the charges and a lack of a criminal history from the teen.
The 16-year-old is accused of throwing the cat out of a vehicle traveling at a high-rate of speed Monday evening at the intersection of U.S. Route 150 and Illinois 78, along with making a Snapchat video of it and sending it to three people.
An investigation into the incident continues.
