PEORIA, Ill. – A 17-year-old had pleaded guilty for his role in a February shooting in Bartonville that injured two teenagers.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says Donald Grant pleaded guilty Monday to Attempted Murder and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.
He was sentenced to 31 years in prison for the murder charge and 20 years for the aggravated battery charge, which will be served at the same time.
The shooting occurred the evening of February 20th, when Grant reportedly shot two people inside a vehicle, and took cannabis from them. The incident occurred on Treasure Street. 20-year-old Evan Nettles reportedly was outside the vehicle, holding a rifle during the incident.
Nettles is charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Armed Robbery, and will go to trial in July.
At the hearing Monday, both victims in the case addressed Grant, with one telling him to be a better man and the other saying that Grant had killed a part of him. Grant was given an opportunity to speak, apologizing and saying he had felt bad for what had occurred.
